CO
 Laser
Lasers are used because they generate a great amount of energy without affecting surrounding tissues. With the heat energy created by the CO2 laser, the top layer of skin can be removed without affecting the deeper layers, therefore avoiding the creationg of hypertrophic scars or injuries that could adversely affect the outcome.

The results of CO2 laser hair removal are often spectacular, but it is not an easy technique. It requires surgical experience and therefore should be performed by an experienced professional. Nor is it painless or quick, and it requires anesthesia for the treatment area as first or second degree burns always cause too much pain to be treated with anesthetic creams only.

Likewise, the post-operative period is neither easy nor simple, but despite all this the technique is highly recommended and has extremely good results when the doctor’s recommendations are correct.

The CO2 laser procedure requires careful patient selection to avoid complications and to ensure the best results. This procedure is NOT recommended for people with hyperpigmentation, who suffer sunburns easily, who have dark skin or many freckles.

Preparation for this procedure requires the same tests as in any type of surgery. It must be kept in mind that this is a surgical operation and should be performed by an expert surgeon only in an operating room with all necessary equipment.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and sedation. The effects of the CO2 laser are always treated as burns due to the tremendous energy focus on the targeted zone. The epidermis of the treated area is vaporized and disappears, and the underlying zone area is reheated, which in turn produces collagen and makes skin smoother and wrinkle-free.

SESIONS

The procedure lasts about an hour per area, about two hours if the entire face is being treated.

As with all burns, immediate care is required, either by performing an occlusive treatment and covering the lesion while using enough moisturization to prevent the creation of scabs, or an open treatment with constant application of creams and elimination of liquids and excess skin.

The post-operative period is one week, after which the patient can resume social activity. Definitive skin regeneration is completed in three to six months, before which time the patient should not receive exposure to the sun.

The CO2 laser treatment is not a substitute for the chemical facial peeling; rather, it reaches much deeper and thus provides much better results.
